About
The American dream for the Snow family was to find a piece of land and make it theirs. That meant a vision focused on wildlife conservation and living off of the land. When doing this the quote that came to their minds was, "leave it better than you found it". That became the motto of the family farm. So when the farm was conceptualized a lot of possibilities were tried and entertained, but ultimately a small grain operation with a natural balance between productivity and conservation emerged.
A place to raise good human beings and build a sustainable farming business is what they ended up with. It took ten years of hard labor to clear invasive trees, build and plan out the Snow Creek Farms skeleton. We planted fruit trees, raised livestock to teach responsibility, and tested soils to lay the foundation of the farm. Since our work was on a small piece of land, we couldn't grow large crops but instead focused on wheat, milo, oats, specialty corn, and sunflowers. Markets did not exist for these large quantities of crops so the idea of a locally grown source of birds and small animals emerged. It was a beautiful combination of Janet's doctorate in animal nutrition and Scott's passion for wildlife. During the way the family grew the talents of their children and significant others were incorporated into the business. The birth of Uncle Scott's line of products was in the Fall of 2023. These products included bird seed, suet cakes, and wildlife corn to complement the farm's crop selection. They were not generic but customized to the types of animals that would be attracted. All products were grown locally in small batches, hand-packaged, and delivered to local favorite outlets.
